The World Health Organization (WHO) serves as the leading authority for health matters within the United Nations system, overseeing global health initiatives, setting standards, guiding health research agendas, and offering technical assistance to countries. Programme Objectives:
The primary goal of this programme is to establish effective WHO Country presence, aligned with member States’ health agendas and coordinated with the United Nations country team.
Description of Role:
Under the guidance of the WHO Country Representative and supervision of the Operations Officer, the Executive Officer will support the management of the WHO Country Office. Responsibilities include:
- Providing senior executive support to the WHO Country Representative, ensuring timely delivery of outputs and facilitating communication between the Representative and various clusters.
- Offering advice on technical and programmatic aspects of work plans and budgets, ensuring compliance with regulations and procedures.
- Managing grant-related procedures, engaging stakeholders, and optimizing outcomes for effective grant management.
- Organizing meetings chaired by the WHO Country Representative, maintaining records, and coordinating administrative services.
- Assisting in the preparation of reports and briefing materials, and liaising with clusters, government partners, and international organizations.
- Performing quality checks on transactions and providing project management support for office activities.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Essential: University Degree in Public Health. Alternatively, candidates with degrees in Business, Public Administration, Social Sciences, or related fields may apply, provided they have at least five years of relevant work experience in an international health organization.
- Desirable: Specialized training in planning, results-based management, project management, or knowledge of WHO Planning, Budgeting, and Monitoring framework.
Experience:
- Essential: A minimum of five years’ experience in programme management within a public health context at the national level.
- Desirable: Prior experience with WHO or other UN Agencies, particularly in planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Experience in emergency settings is advantageous.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with automated planning tools is beneficial.
