Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has approved the automatic recruitment of first-class graduates of Edo origin at all Nigerian universities in the state civil and civil service. The endorsement was conveyed in a statement released by Edo State Services Director, Anthony Okungbowa Esq.

The move is part of a vision to make Edo the best place to live and work by 2050, supported by an innovative and well-paid workforce.

Okungbowa revealed that the names of 15 first-class graduates and top graduates from the aforementioned universities have been forwarded to the Civil Service Commission for processing. He urged the Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian universities to send the names and contact details of first-class students who are Edo natives to the Edo State Government for the same purpose.

It should be noted that Edo State is recognized as the highest paid state government among the states of Nigeria. Governor Obaseki raised the minimum wage in the state to 40,000 naira, demonstrating his commitment to investing in human resources. In addition, the state has implemented an electronic governance system that automates work processes and reshapes the work environment, enabling an ICT-enabled and smart work culture.
