Chevening Scholarships 2024-2025

Chevening Scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year offer exceptional emerging leaders from around the world the opportunity to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the United Kingdom. While there is no single archetype for a Chevening Scholar, we seek individuals with the drive, innovative thinking, and capacity to inspire change and provide leadership crucial for a brighter future.

Guidance for Chevening Scholarship Application

Valuable advice on preparing your Chevening application is essential. Adequate preparation significantly enhances your chances of securing a fully funded Chevening Scholarship for studying in the UK. To facilitate your preparation, we have compiled our best recommendations and guidance to assist you in:

  1. Selecting the most suitable courses.
  2. Choosing appropriate references.
  3. Avoiding common pitfalls often encountered by applicants.
Eligibility

It is crucial to confirm your eligibility before embarking on your application, as ineligible applications will not be considered. To qualify for a Chevening Scholarship, you must:

  1. Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
  2. Commit to returning to your home country for a minimum of two years after completing your Chevening award.
  3. Have successfully completed the prerequisites for an undergraduate degree, enabling you to gain admission to a postgraduate program at a UK university by the application deadline. Typically, this equates to achieving an upper second-class 2:1 honors degree in the UK, but specific requirements may vary based on your chosen course and university.
  4. Possess a minimum of two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience.
  5. Apply to three distinct eligible UK university courses and secure an unconditional offer from one of these institutions by the application deadline outlined in the application timeline.
You are ineligible for a Chevening Scholarship if you:
  1. Hold British or dual British citizenship (unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong).
  2. Hold refugee status in a non-Chevening eligible country. However, applicants who are citizens of a Chevening-eligible country and possess refugee status in a Chevening-eligible country remain eligible for a scholarship.
  3. Are currently employed, have been previously employed, or are related* to an employee of various UK government entities (including but not limited to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, British Embassies/High Commissions, the Home Office, the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Department for International Trade, and the UKVI), the British Council, a sponsoring UK university, or a staff member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
  4. Have previously received funding for studying in the UK from a UK Government-funded scholarship.

*Relatives are defined as parents or step-parents, siblings or step-siblings, children or step-children, spouse, civil partner, or unmarried partner (in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership for at least two years).

Eligibility criteria for Chevening Fellowships can be found on the respective Fellowship program pages.
