Commonwealth Masters Scholarships 2023

Description

Commonwealth Masters Scholarships 2023/2024 (Fully Funded)

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission offers the agency-nominated Master’s program as one of its three Master’s programs. The Commission, known as the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC), administers the UK government scholarship scheme with a focus on international development goals. This initiative operates under the framework of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) and reflects the UK’s enduring commitment to the Commonwealth. The CSC’s mission is to attract individuals with exceptional talents and potential from diverse backgrounds, support their development into leaders and innovators, and facilitate their return to their home countries. In doing so, it aligns sustainable development with the UK’s national interests while fostering international partnerships and collaboration.

Purpose:

Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships offer opportunities for talented and motivated individuals to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for sustainable development. These scholarships target candidates who would otherwise be unable to afford higher education in the UK.

Intended Beneficiaries:

Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships are intended for applicants from eligible low and middle-income Commonwealth countries, enabling them to pursue full-time taught Master’s programs at UK universities.

Applicant Eligibility:

To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must:

  • Be citizens of or hold refugee status in an eligible Commonwealth country or be a British Protected Person.
  • Reside permanently in an eligible Commonwealth country.
  • Be available to commence academic studies in the UK at the start of the UK academic year in September 2024.
  • By September 2024, possess a first-degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honors standard or a lower second-class degree along with a relevant postgraduate qualification (typically a Master’s degree). The CSC generally does not fund a second Master’s degree, but applicants may justify their intent to pursue one.
  • Demonstrate financial need that necessitates this scholarship.
  • Provide all required supporting documentation in the specified format.
Selection Process and Criteria:

Applications will be evaluated based on the following selection criteria:

  • Academic excellence
  • Quality of the research proposal
  • Potential impact on the development of the candidate’s home country

How to Apply:

Applications for Commonwealth Master’s scholarships for the 2023/24 academic year are currently open, with a deadline of 17:00 hours BST (16:00 GMT) on 17 October 2023. Scholarships are for study in the UK starting in September/October 2024. Applicants must use the CSC’s online application system, as the Commission cannot accept applications or documentation submitted through other means. Applicants should apply early due to expected high demand as the deadline approaches. Additionally, applicants must also apply to a nominating agency, either a national nominating agency or selected non-governmental organizations and charitable bodies.
