The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), in collaboration with Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Total Energies, and NAOC Joint Venture, is pleased to announce the Thirteenth annual NNPC/SPDC – JV Niger Delta Postgraduate Scholarship. This scholarship is available to applicants from Bayelsa, Delta, Imo, and Rivers states.

Objective:

The scholarship aims to provide postgraduate study opportunities in courses relevant to the oil and gas industry for qualifying students from the Niger Delta states. Over the past 12 years, 108 scholars have been given the opportunity to study at top-rated universities in the UK on a full scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Display intellectual ability and leadership potential.
  • Have an adequate standard of English (at least 6.5 in IELTS) and meet the College’s language requirement.
  • Have been offered admission to study one of the eligible courses at the College through the normal application process.
  • Hold (or expect to hold by the time of taking up the Scholarship) a degree equivalent to a UK Upper Second-Class Honours degree.
  • Must have completed National Youth Service by September 2024.
  • Be ordinarily resident in Rivers, Imo, Delta, or Bayelsa State of Nigeria.
  • Not have previously studied in the UK or another developed country.
  • Be aged between 21-28 years by 30/09/2024.
  • Hold a Nigerian international passport valid till December 2024.
  • Employees, employees’ relatives (or former employees who left employment less than 5 years ago) of SPDC, Royal Dutch SHELL Group of Companies, or the College are not eligible.
Benefits:
  • The scholarship covers tuition, one economy return-flight ticket from Nigeria to the UK, and a contribution towards living expenses based on Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) published living rates.

Important Information and Note:

  • Candidates should submit applications for admission to any of the participating universities for any of the qualifying courses.
  • Application forms for the scholarship will be available through the websites of Imperial College London and the University of Aberdeen, following a formal offer of admission by the university.
  • The universities will process applications and select candidates for interviews with SPDC before final selection.
  • Completed scholarship application forms must reach the participating universities no later than June 14, 2024.
  • The scholarship does not commit SPDC or any Shell company to offer employment to candidates upon graduation, nor are candidates bonded to SPDC for any period on account of the scholarship.
  • SPDC will provide medical insurance in line with UK Student Visa requirements.
