The Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) is a PhD granting research institution dedicated to cutting-edge research in the physical, mathematical, computer, and life sciences.

Scientists pursue their interests without constraints or predefined research topics, supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure.
More than half of the trustees who oversee the Institute are international scientists. Guidance is also provided by an international scientific advisory board.
ISTA brings together scientists and staff from all over the world. Employees use English as their working language.

The Graduate School offers an interdisciplinary PhD program that supports students in becoming experts in their fields while fostering communication and collaboration across research groups and disciplines.

About Program

Educating PhD students is a core mission of Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA). Our Graduate School offers an interdisciplinary PhD program that supports students in becoming experts in their fields while fostering communication and collaboration across research groups and disciplines.

Our students complete an innovative interdisciplinary training program consisting of both research and taught elements, and receive close mentoring by world-class faculty from different disciplines. All students whose broad research interests align with those of our faculty are eligible to join the ISTA PhD program.

The application deadline is 8 January 2024 (15:00 CET) for entry in September 2024. Please note that reference letters need to be submitted by 14 January 2024 (23:59 CET). Late submissions will not be considered.
