Programme Objectives:

The objective of WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme is to assist countries and coordinate international efforts to prevent, prepare for, detect, respond to, and recover from outbreaks and emergencies.

Responsibilities:

During deployment, duties and duty stations may change based on the technical needs of the Programme. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing end-to-end logistics plans in collaboration with UN partners to ensure timely provision of supplies, equipment, and services for health emergency operations.
  • Coordinating with stakeholders to establish effective logistics processes and schedules.
  • Managing the entire supply chain, from sourcing raw materials to delivering finished products.
  • Monitoring inventory levels, forecasting demand, and ensuring materials are available when needed.
  • Facilitating customs clearance, transportation, storage, and distribution of supplies.
  • Overseeing transportation methods, carrier selection, and shipment tracking.
  • Managing fleet and vehicle maintenance.
  • Overseeing warehouses and inventory levels while minimizing costs.
  • Ensuring appropriate living conditions for deployed staff.
  • Supporting the setup and functioning of health facilities.
  • Implementing water, sanitation, and infection control measures.
  • Developing contingency plans and mitigating risks in the supply chain.
  • Analyzing data, identifying areas for improvement, and proposing changes.
  • Undertaking field assessments to monitor supply management.
  • Monitoring product quality and managing returns or recalls.
  • Utilizing logistics software and information systems.
  • Performing any other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
  • Essential: First University Degree in Public or Business Administration, Logistic Management, Logistics, Engineering, Pharmacy, or related field.
  • Desirable: Professional certification/qualification in transport, distribution, or supply chain management.
Experience:
  • Essential: At least five years’ experience in emergency logistics operations, including international humanitarian operations.
  • Desirable: Experience with WHO/UN or recognized humanitarian organizations.
Skills:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of logistics management in emergency contexts.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
