Job Overview:
Applications are invited from eligible Nigerians for commission into the Nigerian Army (NA) as Short Service Combatant (SSC) Commission officers. This application is open to both civilians and serving military personnel. Only serving military personnel sponsored to civil institutions by any of the Armed Forces Services will be considered.
Upon completion of training and commissioning, SSC officers will serve in Combat Arms (Infantry and Armour Corps) and Combat Support Arms (Artillery, Engineers, Signals, and Intelligence Corps) of the Nigerian Army.
Entry Requirements:
All applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
- Citizenship: Be a Nigerian citizen by birth.
- Age: Be between 23 and 27 years old by January 2025.
- Fitness: Be medically, mentally, and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.
- Referees: Obtain recommendations and attestations from at least two referees (Local Government Chairman/Secretary or an officer of the Armed Forces not below the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent/Assistant Commissioner of Police from the applicant’s state of origin). Passport photographs of referees must be affixed to the letter of attestation.
- Institutional Attestation: Submit a Letter of Attestation from former institutions.
- Height: Minimum height of 1.68m for males and 1.65m for females.
- Criminal Record: Must not have been convicted by any court of law. Military personnel must not have any disciplinary cases and must be endorsed by their Commanding Officer/Commander.
- Educational Qualifications: Possess at least a first degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division or HND with a Lower Credit in arts, sciences, or humanities from an accredited institution. Only credentials obtained from 2014 to date will be considered.
- Certificates: Provide a valid birth certificate or age declaration, a valid certificate of state of origin, and NYSC discharge certificate or certificate of exemption for non-serving members.
- Personal Information: Provide valid contact addresses and telephone numbers of parents/guardians and Next of Kin. Must not have body inscriptions or tattoos.
- Service Personnel: Present valid military identity cards and letters of recommendations by Commanding officers/Commanders. Must have served for a minimum of 5 years in the Armed Forces of Nigeria and declare their service status on application.
Conditions of Service:
- SSC will be granted for 15 years. Ten years will be on the active list (Initial bonding period), renewable for up to 5 additional years. No extension will be granted beyond the fifteenth year except for conversion to a regular combatant commission where applicable.
- Successful officer cadets will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants with seniority from the start of cadet training.
- SSC officers may convert to Regular Combatant Commission based on vacancies and criteria in force.
- Graduating officer cadets must sign an acceptance of SSC terms and conditions before commissioning.
- Civilians’ service reckoning will be based on the commencement of cadet training; military personnel’s reckoning will be effective from enlistment.

- Complete the form and upload required documents:
- Passport photograph
- Educational certificates
- Evidence of membership in any professional body
- Certificate of state of origin
- Birth certificate or age declaration
- NIN/BVN
- Print out the online generated photo-slip. The first page must be signed by a Court Registrar, and the second page by the Local Government Chairman/Secretary or a military officer of the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent from the applicant’s state.
