Payroll Specialist – Africa and Europe at Paystack

Job Description:
This is an opportune moment to join Paystack and contribute significantly to the African employment sector as a Payroll Specialist within our African Operations team.
In this position, you will oversee the entire employee payroll process and ensure adherence to employment regulations across the multiple countries in which we operate, including compliance with statutory requirements in Africa and Europe. Your reporting line will be to the Finance Operations Lead, and your base will be in Nigeria.
What it takes to succeed in this role:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll management
- Thorough understanding of payroll best practices
- Proficient knowledge of local payroll laws and regulations in Africa and Europe
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in payroll software usage with accuracy and efficiency
- Skilled in utilizing software tools such as Microsoft Office or Google Suites
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
- Adaptability to a dynamic, international work environment with a commitment to making a difference
- Openness to learning, analytical thinking, and interest in payroll
- Sound grasp of accounting, financial reporting, tax fundamentals, and payroll best practices
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with payroll service providers in preparing payroll and meeting statutory filing requirements
- Maintain and update employee payroll records, including tax and benefit deductions
- Prepare and submit payroll-related tax reports in compliance with local laws and regulations
- Conduct regular audits of payroll systems to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards
- Manage existing relationships with payroll, accounting, and benefits service providers
- Reconcile PAYE, pension, and other statutory remittances with respective payroll providers
- Uphold complete data integrity and confidentiality
- Address and resolve any payroll-related issues or disputes
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to payroll and employee benefits
- Effectively communicate with employees and management regarding payroll matters, benefits, and policies
- Stay informed about changes to local payroll laws and regulations and ensure compliance
This is a full-time role with remote-friendly options within +/- 3 hours of West African Standard Time.
While not strictly required, previous experience in a big four accounting firm, top-tier consulting firm, fintech, or financial institution would be advantageous.
