Project Supervisor at Terre des hommes (TDH)

Terre des hommes is a leading Swiss organization dedicated to children’s rights and well-being. Established in 1960, our mission is to protect children’s lives and improve their well-being through innovative programs that create both short- and long-term impacts. We operate in around thirty countries annually, providing direct and indirect support to millions of children and their families in challenging contexts including war zones, disaster areas, and poverty-stricken regions.

Project Context:

Tdh is expanding its efforts in Ondo and Cross River States to enhance the protective environment for children and communities in cocoa-growing regions of Nigeria. This initiative builds upon our extensive experience in child protection, education, and community systems strengthening. The project aims to address child labour and other rights violations through a holistic, multi-sectoral approach focusing on improving education, child protection systems, livelihood resources, community infrastructure, and multi-stakeholder engagement.

Job Overview:

The Project Supervisor will work closely with the Project Manager/Area Coordinator to implement and oversee project activities in the designated locations. This role requires expertise in Participatory Action Research and a commitment to child-centered and community-driven approaches. The Supervisor will play a crucial role in driving the project’s success, ensuring the active participation of children and communities, and achieving the project’s key objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Planning and Implementation:
    • Lead the planning and execution of project activities according to the proposal, Tdh, donor, and global standards.
    • Ensure safe working practices and create awareness of safeguarding risks.
    • Guide volunteers in improving access to quality education and establish child-led protection clubs.
    • Form child protection committees and support them in driving change within their communities.
    • Train government stakeholders on child protection case management.
    • Support village savings and loan associations (VSLAs) in establishing child protection funds and improving livelihoods.
    • Enhance community infrastructure and multi-stakeholder engagement through the CLECA methodology.
  • Staff Management:
    • Supervise and guide project volunteers to achieve objectives.
    • Select and train community volunteers, fostering a motivational and respectful environment.
  • Capacity Building and Development:
    • Strengthen the capacities of child protection committees, VSLAs, and government bodies in addressing child labour and protection concerns.
  • Monitoring and Reporting:
    • Support Participatory Baseline Assessments and project tool development.
    • Provide monthly progress reports and document lessons learned.
    • Ensure data protection and contribute to project reviews.
  • Coordination:
    • Liaise with relevant ministries, agencies, and humanitarian actors.
    • Coordinate with community stakeholders and integrate with other Tdh sectors.
Education & Training:
  • HND, B.Sc, B.Ed, M.Sc in Social Sciences, Management, Education, or a relevant field.
  • Experience in humanitarian and/or development contexts, especially working with children and vulnerable adults.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Fluent in English and local languages.
  • Experience with Participatory Action Research and child-centered approaches.
  • Understanding of child labour realities and child protection issues.
  • Strong communication, capacity building, team-building, and advocacy skills.
  • Proficiency in assessment, analysis, and time management.
Security and Compliance:
  • Adhere to Tdh’s Risk Management Policies, including Child Safeguarding, Anti-Fraud, and Security policies.
  • Promote a culture of open leadership and ensure compliance with Tdh standards and regulations.
