Senior Wells Engineer (Drilling & Completion) at Chevron Nigeria Limited

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) is one of the largest oil producers and investors in Nigeria. We operate under a joint-venture arrangement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) across onshore and offshore assets in the Niger Delta. Chevron also has extensive interests in deepwater operations, including the Agbami Field, one of Nigeria’s largest discoveries, and a non-operated interest in the Usan Field.

Role Overview

The Senior Wells Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and executing complex well construction and completion projects. This role involves leading cross-functional teams to safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively develop oil and gas wells. The position requires advanced engineering skills, mentoring junior engineers, and continuously improving Well engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Well Design:
    • Lead the planning and design of well construction programs (deviated, horizontal, and multilateral wells).
    • Develop detailed well designs and ensure compliance with technical, operational, and regulatory standards.
    • Analyze well data and collaborate with geologists to optimize reservoir potential.
    • Run simulations and optimize well parameters using technical expertise.
  • Drilling Operations:
    • Manage well operations, ensuring safety and environmental protocols are followed.
    • Analyze real-time data and implement proactive solutions to potential drilling issues.
    • Oversee procurement and logistics of drilling equipment.
  • Completion and Workover:
    • Develop advanced well completion designs and select appropriate downhole equipment.
    • Plan and supervise well completion activities.
    • Execute well intervention and workover strategies to enhance well productivity.
  • Project Management:
    • Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource plans for well delivery.
    • Prepare detailed engineering reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and identify process improvements.
    • Champion knowledge-sharing initiatives to refine internal procedures.
  • Mentoring:
    • Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior engineers and field personnel.
What You Will Bring
  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering or related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
    • Minimum 10 years of experience in Wells engineering within the oil and gas industry.
    • Professional certifications (P.E.) in well engineering disciplines (deepwater, unconventional, enhanced oil recovery) are preferred.
  • Expertise:
    • Extensive knowledge of well design, drilling, completion technologies, and production optimization techniques.
    • Proficient in using well planning, simulation, and project management tools.
    • Ability to leverage digital tools such as data visualization, predictive analytics, and machine learning to enhance well performance.
  • Leadership & Safety:
    • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor junior staff.
    • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills to interact with diverse stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of industry regulations, standards, and safety protocols.
  • Additional Considerations:
    • Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
    • Project management experience with budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
