World Bank ICSID Internship Program 2024

The World Bank ICSID Internship Program offers motivated individuals a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in international investment dispute settlement and law. Interns will be exposed to the workings of ICSID (International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes), contributing to its mission while advancing their academic and professional goals.

About the Program: Interns at ICSID will:

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of international investment dispute settlement.
  • Work on a team-based environment within the world’s leading institution for investment disputes.
  • Bring innovative ideas and research to support ICSID’s mission.

Eligibility Requirements: To be considered, candidates must:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate program.
  • Provide written confirmation from their university that they will receive:
    • Academic credit for at least one term/semester, or
    • A stipend from the university for the duration of the internship.
  • Have or be eligible for an F1 or G4 visa, or be U.S. citizens or Green Card holders.
  • Cover costs of travel, accommodation, and living expenses in Washington, D.C.
  • Meet their university’s internship requirements and secure eligibility prior to applying.

Program Duration and Rewards:

  • Up to six internships are offered every four months for a minimum of 12 weeks.
  • Interns are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
  • Internship periods: September-December, January-April, May-August.
  • Interns work at ICSID’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. (unless restricted due to COVID).
  • Internships are unpaid but offer academic credit or university sponsorship.

Selection Criteria: Interns are selected competitively and must meet the following:

  • A strong interest in investor-State dispute settlement and international investment law.
  • Rising 3L, LLM, or Ph.D. student.
  • Fluency in English (and preferably French or Spanish).
  • Ability to conduct legal research on arbitration and investment law issues.
  • Strong writing and drafting skills.
