The Chain Rule: A Discourse on Networking and Connectivity

A Discourse on Networking and Connectivity

Welcome, welcome, it’s wonderful to have you here again and I do believe we have a wonderful time together gaining insight while going through this article together. In this article, we are considering how networking helps business, career and lives in general.

Let’s get started right away, someone once said “I believe If you know where you are going, your journey is short. If you know how to get there, your journey is shorter. If you have someone who has been there to teach you how to get there, your journey is the shortest. If that person decides to take you there, you are already there”.

One thing about life is nobody is an island, and  we all are a function of the products of people around us. When we talk about networking, people think of people who are superior to them in status, caste, economic factor, career and other aspects, true, but it is half the truth, as networking also involves connecting with people who are in your cadre and people who might also be considered below your status.

Let me give a quick example here, your office cleaner might be a good talker with your boss or manager, who you might not even see frequently due to the fact that you are not on the same floor in the office but the cleaner is the one assigned to clean his or her office and occasionally they talk about things, things concerning work and outside work.

Now, I am not trying to establish a Nollywood movie setting here, my point is networking might not always be vertical, up, above you but also horizontal and below you. You must understand that some people don’t have what you need but they might have information pertaining to it, they might know people who work in areas like that, in cases like this, they are called connectors rather than the network.

Social skills can not be underrated when we discuss connection and networking, establishing strategic and beneficial relationships not just for the benefit therein but for the sake of good relationships. Most people associate with others in a way that it seem so obvious they are there to get a thing, some student only associate with other student to get from their wealth of academic knowledge, some in professional life associate with others for a boost in their career, some entrepreneurs do associate to get fundings, grants and some sort of legal document or settlement form people without the genuine act of true relationship. Connection, networking is true for a reason but it must be done purposefully, in a way that both parties benefit from the relationship.

Let’s run it into a concluding part, connection and networking is very important in every sphere of life, and it should be done in such a way that both parties involved are benefiting mutually. Social skills embracement is also necessary in the act of connecting and networking. We wish you lot of luck and happiness as you look beyond the horizon, expand your coast and connect with people who are of like mind and of positive and great impact to your life.

Enjoy.
