Main Purpose of Job
- The Technical Adviser will undertake a dual role, overseeing aspects of public health emergency preparedness, resilience, and response (EPRR) in Nigeria while also serving as a liaison to the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Surveillance and Disease Control (RCSDC), under the direction of the Senior Public Health Advisor/Country Lead.
- The role encompasses key responsibilities such as coordinating IHR-SP EPRR activities, supporting the establishment and execution of national EPRR simulation exercises, and maintaining situational awareness for both the UK-based EPRR team and the ECOWAS RCSDC.
- Diplomatic acumen and cultural intelligence are essential, as the role involves engaging with senior leadership, government officials, and other stakeholders.
- The ideal candidate should possess expertise in EPRR alongside international relations capabilities, able to demonstrate both technical proficiency and diplomatic finesse.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Coordinate IHR-SP EPRR input for bilateral and multilateral activities at the country level.
- Support the development and execution of national EPRR simulation exercises.
- Assist in the development, testing, and validation of EPRR policies, plans, and SOPs.
- Maintain in-country EPRR situational awareness and provide updates to the UK-based EPRR team.
- Collaborate with the ECOWAS RCSDC to enhance EPRR capability in the region.
- Additionally, the role involves stakeholder management, representation at relevant events, and providing technical input to strengthen EPRR capability in Nigeria.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Degree qualification or equivalent experience in a health-related field.
- Demonstrable experience in emergency preparedness, resilience, and/or response, preferably in public health.
- Familiarity with Nigeria’s health sector and cultural context.
- Proven stakeholder management skills, including collaboration with government agencies.
- Experience in delivering presentations, training sessions, or participating in emergency response exercises.
- Understanding of monitoring and evaluation principles in project delivery.
- Knowledge of global health challenges, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
- Ability to work independently, manage workload, and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Proficiency in computer applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Desirable Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Additional qualifications or experience in emergency preparedness, resilience, and response.
- Previous roles in public sector or bilateral/multilateral organizations.
- Familiarity with UKHSA (UK Health Security Agency).
Salary: USD 4,885.77
