Health & Safety Officer at Paras Energy
Paras Energy was established in 2002 as a diversified and globally recognized energy company, dedicated to providing dependable and consistent power to all customers through power generation and distribution, while strictly adhering to OEM guidelines for operation and maintenance. In addition to power generation and distribution, we offer EPC and maintenance services for substations, transmission lines, and pressure reducing & measuring stations. Over the years, we have built a diverse clientele across Nigeria and continue to expand our portfolio by delivering reliable services. On April 8, 2016, Paras Energy became the 27th company to supply power to the National Grid in Nigeria and the first privately owned company to supply power under a bilateral agreement to its customers.
Responsibilities
Policy Development:
- Formulate, implement, and revise health and safety policies and procedures to meet local, state, and federal regulations.
- Effectively communicate policies and procedures to employees, ensuring comprehension and compliance.
Risk Assessment:
- Regularly conduct risk assessments and inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective measures.
- Analyze accident and incident data to recognize trends and areas for enhancement.
Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for employees at all organizational levels.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes to ensure training materials are current.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Establish and uphold emergency response plans.
- Coordinate drills and exercises to ensure employee readiness for emergencies.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay informed about health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Ensure the organization’s adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.
Investigations:
- Lead investigations into accidents, near misses, and other safety-related incidents.
- Maintain accurate records of investigations and corrective actions taken.
Safety Culture Promotion:
- Foster a positive safety culture across the organization.
- Encourage employee engagement in safety initiatives and programs.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address safety issues and implement enhancements.
- Engage with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders as necessary.
Job Requirements
- HND / Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Capability to lead and influence cross-functional teams.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Prior experience as a Health and Safety Manager or in a similar role is preferred.
- Professional certification in health and safety (e.g., CSP, CIH) is advantageous.
- Thorough understanding of occupational health and safety regulations.
