Finance Officer at Malaria Consortium
Malaria Consortium is one of the world’s leading non-profit organizations specializing in the prevention, control, and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases. With a mission to serve vulnerable populations, we integrate our malaria work with public health interventions for greater impact, including child health and neglected tropical disease interventions.
Job Summary
The Finance Officer will provide critical financial support, ensuring proper record-keeping of transactions, efficient cash management, and timely reporting in alignment with organizational policies. The role also involves liaising with internal teams, external auditors, and stakeholders while supporting the smooth operation of the finance department.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Work (40%):
- Prepare monthly financial reports, including:
- Bank reconciliation statements.
- Aged ledger balances.
- Fixed asset register updates.
- Petty cash counts and reconciliations.
- End-of-month checklists.
- Manage accurate reconciliation of ledgers (petty cash, staff, purchase).
- Calculate and request monthly cash needs while minimizing excess balances.
- Facilitate payments for meetings, workshops, and consultants.
- Ensure adherence to organizational policies when processing payment requests.
- Remit statutory deductions, including WHT and PAYE, per Nigerian government timelines.
- Act as the first point of contact for payment queries.
Suppliers’ Invoices (25%):
- Process supplier and vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy and appropriate authorization.
- Post payments on ledgers with accurate codes and supporting documentation.
Operational Work (25%):
- Manage travel and activity advances, ensuring timely reconciliation upon return.
- Maintain organized and accessible financial documentation.
- Ensure all staff submit timesheets within the required timeline.
Petty Cash (10%):
- Manage petty cash, including requisitions, disbursements, and reconciliations.
- Deposit cash collections promptly and accurately post petty cash invoices.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience:
- HND or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Minimum of 3 years of finance team experience, including at least 1 year as an Accounts Officer.
- Experience in an INGO is advantageous.
- Membership in an accounting professional body is a plus.
Essential Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of NGO donor financial reporting requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Analytical and reporting skills.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with accounting software.
- Trustworthiness and decision-making under stress.
