St. Dominic Catholic Hospital is a 64-bed healthcare facility located in Ogungbade, off New Ife Road, Ibadan. Established by the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena (Italy), the hospital provides comprehensive healthcare services, including General Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Laboratory Services, and Radiology.

The hospital operates in partnership with international collaborators and is fully registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and licensed by the Ministry of Health. It is also accredited by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) as both a Primary and Secondary Healthcare Provider.

Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Medical Radiographer to perform high-quality diagnostic X-ray and CT scan examinations while ensuring exceptional patient care, radiation safety, and regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise in general radiography and computed tomography (CT), adhere strictly to the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) radiation safety principles, and comply with the Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) Radiation Safety in Medical Practice Regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Operations (X-ray & CT)

• Perform routine and specialized X-ray examinations, including chest, spine, extremities, skull, abdomen, and contrast studies.
• Conduct CT examinations, including head, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine, and contrast-enhanced imaging according to approved protocols.
• Review physician requests and assess patients for contraindications such as pregnancy, contrast allergies, and renal impairment.
• Select appropriate imaging parameters to achieve optimal image quality while minimizing radiation exposure.
• Administer IV contrast media for CT procedures where authorized.
• Ensure accurate patient positioning and appropriate use of radiation protection equipment.
• Knowledge and experience in ultrasound scanning will be an added advantage.

Radiation Safety & Regulatory Compliance

• Operate all radiographic equipment in accordance with the hospital's NNRA Authorization Certificate.
• Apply ALARA principles through appropriate dose optimization techniques.
• Wear and maintain personal TLD dosimeters and comply with monthly monitoring requirements.
• Perform routine equipment quality control checks, calibrations, and maintenance procedures.
• Ensure radiation warning systems, safety signage, and access controls remain functional.
• Report radiation incidents, equipment faults, or contrast-related adverse events promptly.

Patient Care & Image Management

• Explain imaging procedures and obtain verbal consent where appropriate.
• Monitor patients before, during, and after contrast administration.
• Assess image quality before patient discharge and minimize unnecessary repeat examinations.
• Perform image post-processing, including multiplanar reconstruction and 3D imaging.
• Upload diagnostic images to PACS for reporting.
• Maintain accurate patient records, imaging parameters, and procedural documentation.

Quality Assurance & Administration

• Maintain cleanliness of imaging equipment and examination rooms in line with infection prevention protocols.
• Ensure adequate stock levels of contrast media, syringes, IV consumables, films, and related materials.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, radiation safety audits, and continuous professional development activities.
• Maintain a valid RRBN practicing license and NNRA Radiation Worker status.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the Head of Diagnostic Centre or Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• CT and X-ray repeat rate below 3% due to operator error.
• 100% compliance with dosimeter usage and monthly submission.
• Patient radiation doses maintained within NNRA Diagnostic Reference Levels.
• Contrast extravasation rate below 1%.
• Zero violations of NNRA license conditions.
• Image quality audit score of at least 90%.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• Bachelor's Degree (B.Sc.) in Radiography from a recognized institution.

Professional License

• Current practicing license issued by the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN).

Experience

• Minimum of 2–5 years' post-NYSC experience.
• At least one (1) year of practical CT scan experience.

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Training in IV cannulation and contrast administration is an added advantage.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in general radiography and multi-slice CT imaging.
• Good knowledge of PACS and radiation dose optimization techniques.
• Strong understanding of CT physics, cross-sectional anatomy, and radiation protection principles.
• Ability to manage emergency contrast reactions effectively.
• Excellent documentation and record-keeping skills.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient care skills.
• High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in controlled radiation environments with exposure to ionizing radiation and contrast media.
• Personal protective equipment (PPE) and radiation dosimetry are provided.
• The role requires prolonged standing, patient handling, and manual dexterity.
• Rotational shifts, weekend duties, and emergency on-call responsibilities may be required.

Reporting Line

• Reports operationally to the Head of Diagnostic Centre.
• Reports functionally to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) on radiation safety matters.
• Receives clinical supervision from the Radiologist.

Salary

₦300,000 – ₦400,000 per month
