Job Overview

Our client, a leading insurance company with a strong market presence in Nigeria, is seeking an experienced Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to provide strategic leadership across its human capital function.

The CHRO will partner with the Managing Director/CEO, Executive Management, and Board to align people, leadership, culture, talent, and organizational performance with the Company’s business strategy and long-term growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the Company’s enterprise-wide Human Capital Strategy.
  • Partner with the Board and Executive Management on workforce, leadership, organizational, and people priorities.
  • Lead organization design, workforce planning, restructuring, and manpower optimization.
  • Develop executive succession plans and leadership development frameworks.
  • Build talent pipelines and strengthen the Company’s employer brand.
  • Establish performance management frameworks, KPIs, scorecards, and accountability systems.
  • Develop competitive compensation, benefits, grading, and incentive structures.
  • Lead learning, capability development, and professional development initiatives.
  • Drive culture transformation, organizational change, and employee engagement.
  • Oversee employee relations, HR governance, compliance, policies, and workplace conduct.
  • Lead HR technology, automation, workforce analytics, and digital transformation.
  • Build workforce capabilities aligned with the evolving insurance industry.
  • Lead and strengthen the HR function, including its structures, processes, service standards, and governance.
  • Provide regular human capital reports and strategic insights to the Board and Executive Management.
  • Advise leadership on workforce risks, succession, talent, compensation, organizational performance, and people strategy.
Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Psychology, Management, or a related field.
  • MBA, MSc, or relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
  • Professional certifications such as CIPM, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, HRCI, FCIPM, or related HR qualifications are an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive HR experience, including significant senior HR leadership experience.
  • Proven experience as a CHRO, HR Director, Group Head of HR, or equivalent senior HR leadership role.
  • Experience in insurance, banking, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Experience partnering with CEOs, Executive Management, Boards, and Board Committees.
  • Proven experience in organization-wide transformation, workforce restructuring, and culture change.
  • Strong experience in executive succession, talent management, performance management, and compensation strategy.
  • Experience managing HR functions across large or geographically dispersed workforces is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian employment legislation, regulatory requirements, corporate governance, and HR best practices.
